"Sleep" by CJP

I found this short vid by cjp101 and thought of Neil as it is based on and inspired by the work of Salvador Dali, one of Neil's fav artists.

I'm also testing putting vids on the blog, so here goes...!

August 'Hands On'

ACNB first 'Hands on' day officially a success!

Last Sunday, ACNB members started their masterpieces, dabbled in new dimensions and enjoyed a get-to-gether with new and old friends.

Joe, our visitor from Inverell, stunned us all with his magnificent photo of the Pasha Bulker, which was transferred onto canvas by the end of the day.

Caroline started something which I know is going to be a talking piece for guests to her home for years to come.

whilst Neil designed a new piece of furniture...

Sketching, painting, weaving & charcoal were just a few of the mediums and techniques being explored by members.

I am certain there are masterpieces to come and I think everyone will agree it was a great start to our newly formed Art Club!

I look forward to our next hands on day... stay tuned for date and venue...

'This Is Not Art' Festival

The 'This Is Not Art' Festival will be held in Newcastle from 27 Sep to 1 Oct.

There's five full days of conferences, workshops, panels, artists' presentations, forums, exhibitions, performances and gigs (most of them free!).

See Newcastle come alive with creativity, discover something new, or simply appreciate the talents of others. There's opportunity to display your art for sale by applying for a market stall, it may be a bit early for ACNB members to get pieces together this year (way too early I say!), but maybe we could consider this for next year? Just a thought.

Check out the website for further details www.thisisnotart.org, and if you want sign up for festival updates, email marni@thisisnotart.org with "This Is Not Art announcements sign me up" in the subject header.

The Festival currently incorporates four other major festivals, each of them with their own unique focus:

Electrofringe www.electrofringe.net
National Young Writers' Festival www.youngwritersfestival.org
Sound Summit www.soundsummit.com
Critical Animals www.criticalanimals.org

You may be deceived into thinking these festivals cater for the young and upcoming artists only (I did anyway! and of course 39 is way over the hill!!!), however on closer scrutinisation (I have checked out the Young Writers Festival) there are competitions for even those as old as me! So I encourage you to read the fine print.

Thankyou!

I firstly want to thank ACNB members for the dedication, passion and excitement displayed towards our new Club. You've helped me get fired up about the Group's possibilities and particularly eager to start my own masterpiece - as I'm sure everyone is!!

Our first outing was a blast... 'The World's Most Photographed' exhibition was amazing. Through the lens’s eye, I saw Muhammad Ali's determination to be the best, James Dean's charisma and youth, John F Kennedy the family man with a gorgeous smile, Mahatma Gandhi's power, Greta Garbo's mystery, Audrey Hepburn's beauty, Adolf Hitler’s 'other' side, Marilyn Monroe's flirtatious eyes and sex appeal, Elvis' moves, and Queen Victoria's skillful poise.

Artexpress was astounding. I was amazed at the talent and depth of our local Year 12 students. “Thank you” to these students who have given me the inspiration and confidence to run with my own imagination.

The pizza afterwards topped off the day...

I am looking forward to 'hands on'!

Art Appreciation Afternoon

Hi all

Tory has arranged our first outing, an Art Appreciation Afternoon on Sunday 24 June from 2:30pm. Please meet at the Newcastle Art Gallery for the exhibition "The World's most Photographed". Hope you can make it!

The first hands on afternoon will be at Tory's place on 8 July. Bring along your sketch pads, easels, pencils, paints, charcoal or any medium and/or surface of your choosing. What would YOU like to try your hand at, or do you have a project already on the go that needs some inspiration and time?? Bring along some nibbles to share and drinks.

Remember - absolutely no boundaries!!

Let your imagination go...

Toni
